Short Summary of the Talk:

This presentation will highlight the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing care for older adults. I will discuss some of my lab’s projects, including the use of AI for COVID-19 prediction in CHSLDs (long-term care facilities), as well as our work on detection of frailty and depression in aging populations. The talk will also cover our efforts to develop explainable AI models to promote transparency and trust in clinical decision-making. Furthermore, I will discuss the importance of integration of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles into AI, emphasizing its role in fostering fair, ethical, and inclusive advancements.

A short bio:

Dr. Samira A.Rahimi, B.Eng, PhD. is an Assistant Professor at McGill University and Mila – Quebec AI Institute. She is Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in AI and Advanced Digital Primary Health Care and is an affiliated scientist at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research at the Jewish General Hospital. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on developing and implementing advanced digital health technologies, including AI-enabled decision support tools, to enhance primary health care, particularly for vulnerable populations such as older adults and individuals with chronic diseases. Dr. Rahimi’s research has been funded by organizations such as FRQS, NSERC, CIHR, and Roche Canada. She has received numerous awards, including the 2022 New Investigator Primary Care Research Award from NAPCRG, recognizing her significant contributions to primary care research.
