Summary
While the Internet of Things (IoT) offers substantial benefits across various industries, the growing number of connected devices and associated computational demands also lead to increased resource consumption and a notable environmental footprint. Given the societal value these systems can provide—and their growing adoption across various domains—it is essential to promote eco-responsible deployment. In this talk, the environmental impact considerations in the early stages of the implementation and opportunities to improve design choices with a people‐planet‐system perspective are discussed. We will discuss the aspects related to system configuration, data management and the overall goal and functionalities supported by the CPS through two case studies: smart homes and fall detection systems.
