Aging trajectories

In charge

Theme 2 – Aging Trajectories focuses on the health journeys of older adults by examining the factors that influence life transitions, autonomy, and quality of life. CRIUGM researchers aim to identify the biological, social, and environmental determinants of aging trajectories to anticipate the needs of older adults and optimize the care provided to them.

Key Objectives

  • Study the determinants of health trajectories : Explore the factors that influence the physical, cognitive, and mental health of older adults, such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and social networks.
  • Understand life transitions : Identify the challenges related to changes in status or living environment—such as hospitalization, entry into long-term care, or loss of autonomy—in order to respond effectively.
  • Develop assessment tools : Design methods and indicators to analyze and personalize the health trajectories of older adults.
  • Adopt an interdisciplinary perspective : Collaborate with experts from various fields to better understand the complex interactions between individual and environmental factors.

Flagship Initiatives

  • Studies on frailty and multimorbidity : Analysis of the links between frailty, geriatric syndromes, and health trajectories to better prevent complications associated with aging.
  • Projects on care environments : Exploration of how care settings—such as senior residences and rehabilitation services—impact the health and well-being of older adults.
  • Evaluation of integrated care pathways : Development of programs aimed at optimizing continuity of care and transitions between different health services.
  • Participatory approaches : Involvement of older adults and their caregivers in the co-construction of research projects and interventions.

Impact et vision

Theme 2 aims to transform the management of aging-related health trajectories by highlighting the key factors that influence well-being and autonomy. By integrating biological, social, and environmental perspectives, this theme contributes to anticipating the needs of an aging population and optimizing care practices. Through this work, CRIUGM positions itself as a leader in the understanding and management of health pathways related to aging.
