Canada Research Chair Awarded to AmanPreet Badhwar

We are delighted to announce that Dr. AmanPreet Badhwar has been awarded a prestigious Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Vascular and Metabolic Mechanisms of Brain Aging and Neurodegeneration.

Dr. Badhwar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the Université de Montréal (UdeM) and a regular researcher at the CRIUGM.

About the research program

As populations age, neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease (AD), represent a growing global health challenge. Emerging evidence highlights the critical contributions of vascular and metabolic dysfunction to brain aging, cognitive decline, and neurodegeneration.

Dr. Badhwar’s Canada Research Chair will investigate the brain–body vascular–metabolic axis to uncover disease-relevant mechanisms and accelerate the discovery of biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. By integrating advanced neuroimaging, molecular multiomics, conventional and virtual reality-based cognitive assessments, and artificial intelligence, her research aims to generate insights that could enable earlier disease detection, more precise patient stratification, and improved assessment of therapeutic efficacy in clinical trials. This innovative, multidisciplinary program strengthens UdeM and CRIUGM’s position as leaders in brain aging and neurodegeneration research while opening new opportunities for academic, clinical, and industry collaborations.

Congratulations to Dr. Badhwar on this outstanding achievement, recognizing the excellence, innovation, and translational potential of her research!
