Biography

Tokiko Hamasaki is an occupational therapist and assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (Drummondville campus). She is also a health professional researcher affiliated with the CHUM Research Centre in Montreal. Originally trained in Human Sciences at Waseda University in Japan, she later specialized in occupational therapy and rehabilitation sciences at Université de Montréal, where she completed both her master’s and doctoral degrees, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at UQTR.

With over two decades of clinical experience in the rehabilitation of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders, she has also taught at Université de Montréal, Université de Sherbrooke, and McGill University. Her professional journey is distinguished by multiple prestigious recognitions and competitive research funding (FRQS, CHUM, OEQ, Université de Montréal), as well as a strong track record in both clinical and academic leadership.

Research interests

Dr. Hamasaki’s research focuses on the interdisciplinary and biopsychosocial management of chronic pain, particularly in individuals with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis. Her work emphasizes improving quality of life and psychological well-being through both conservative and surgical interventions. She also specializes in the cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation of functional assessment tools, and in the development of patient empowerment strategies, including the adoption of digital health technologies.
