Biography

Mohamad Forouzanfar is an Associate Professor at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) of the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is working on several studies aimed at better measuring, analyzing, and interpreting physiological data by developing advanced methods in instrumentation, signal and image processing, and machine learning. Before joining ÉTS, he worked as a research scientist at the Human Sleep Research Lab at SRI International in Menlo Park, California. He also held postdoctoral positions at Stanford University, Harvard University, and the University of Ottawa. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Forouzanfar is a Senior Member of the IEEE and Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.

Research interests

A recognized expert in connected health technologies, he leads innovative research in non-invasive physiological monitoring, biomedical signal processing, and the optimization of mental health and sleep interventions. He has contributed to major projects funded by CIHR, NSERC, NIH, and IARPA, and has collaborated with industry partners such as Panasonic.

His work focuses on wearable technologies, cognitive interfaces, and personalized approaches to sleep disorders—advancing preventive medicine and improving access to care for vulnerable populations. He currently supervises around twenty graduate students and has received several distinctions from the IEEE for his editorial and peer-review work.
