Biography

Jean-Pierre Gagné obtained a Ph.D. from the Central Institute for the Deaf, Washington University (St. Louis, MO, USA). Dr, Gagné holds a M.Sc. degree in Audiology and aural rehabilitation from McGill University (1978) and a Ph.D. in Communication sciences and Audiology from Washington University (1983). Presently, he is a Professor at the École d’orthophonie et d’audiologie, faculté de medicine, at the Université de Montréal where he teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in audiological rehabilitation.

Research interests

Dr. Gagné’s research interests are in the area of audiological rehabilitation in younger and older adults with hearing loss. Some of his research projects investigate the auditory, visual and audiovisual speech-perception abilities of younger and older adults with hearing loss. Another component of his research program focuses on the linguistic and cognitive factors underlying speech-perception in adults with hearing loss. Dr. Gagné is also interested in the psychosocial aspects of hearing loss. Along with some colleagues, he is currently investigating issues related to the stigma associated with hearing loss.
